You are here: Home > Files > Uploading files

Uploading files

Click on the Files tab then click one of the Browse buttons (see screen shot below). This will allow you to select a file from your computer, when you have found the file you want to upload just double click on it. You can repeat this with the other browse buttons in order to upload up to five files at one time.

Once you have selected the files you wish to upload click the Upload file(s) button. The files will now start to upload.

The time taken to upload files will depend on the size of the file(s) and your connection speed.

While the files are uploading you will not be able to download from the internet. So you will not be able to browse the internet in another window while files are uploading.

When the files have uploaded an alert box will tell you that the process is complete.

Creating links to your files

Once your files have been uploaded you need to create links to them.

  • Open the editor (right-click on an editable area).
  • Select the text that you want to make into a link.
  • Click the link button.
  • Click "One of your uploaded files".
  • Click "Select a file" and choose the file you want to link to.
  • Click "Save".

What happens when someone clicks a link to one of my files?

If their computer has software that supports the type of file you linked to the file will open on their computer directly. If they do not have the appropriate software they will be prompted to download the file to their computer.

For example, let's say you upload a Word document. If your visitor has Word on their computer the document will open when they click the link, otherwise they will be prompted to download it.

If visitors want to download your file rather than opening it immediately, they can right click on the link and choose "Save target as ..."

Deleting or replacing files

To delete file(s), tick the file(s) in the "Del" column, then click "Delete selected files". So long as the files are not being used on your website they will be deleted. Note that deleting files will not affect your live website until you click "Publish".

If you want to update a file (with a new version of a PDF document for example) just upload a new file with the same filename, the new file will replace the old one when the website is published.  You don't need to change the link or delete the file first.
